As armor began to become more prevelant and impenetrable, the weapons began to be contstructed in to match that. This longsword is a wonderful example of the the transition. The sword blade tappers to a fine point, this point would have been used to slide through the gaps in armor. The large crossguard was used to take control of the opponents blade and take control of the fight. The large pommel is a good counter weigth to balance out the sword, making it a very responsive blade.
This Gothic Bastard Sword has a blade of high carbon steel. The pommel and guard are steel and the wooden grip is overlaid in both wire and leather. The scabbard is wood with a leather wrap and steel fittings.
